Greetings Meadow Glade SDA Church family and friends! (4.25.24 Edition)

This past weekend was a wonderful weekend for socializing at the Meadow Glade Church! We are grateful for the Moor family who were the catalysts for great connection moments on Saturday night (vespers) and Sunday afternoon (wedding reception)!

Pastor Jim Bollin has written the following special thanks: "It has been said that every picture tells a story. But maybe the message is dependent on how the picture is presented. Last Sabbath, the vespers presentation by Trisha Thorman and her father, Jim Moor, was truly a special blessing. As they shared stories of their Kilimanjaro climb it was easy to see God's hand at work in the beauty of nature, in His provision, and in His grace. Thank you Trisha and Jim, for letting Jesus work in and through you to your new friends in Africa and to us."

WHAT'S HAPPENING WITH OUR CHURCH FAMILY

* Vicki Waggoner went to her rest in Jesus this past Friday night. Please pray for peace and comfort for her family - Krista Patchin and Shanna Wilson. Details are forthcoming for a Celebration of Life service.

* John Hubach and his mom, Peggy Hubach, have concerning health issues. Please pray for strength and understanding at this time.

* We have hired a new church Receptionist! We are excited to have Heidi An join our team on May 13! Please welcome her and pray as she transitions into this position! Bio: Heidi was born and raised in Redmond, Washington, a Seattle suburb. She is the youngest of three girls by 10 and 7 years! After high school she attended community college to fulfill prerequisites for dental hygiene. She then went onto Loma Linda University and received her Bachelor’s degree in Dental Hygiene and also happened to meet her now husband, Ben, a dental graduate. They married in August of 2008 and soon after moved to Bellingham, WA. Their son, Beckham, was born in 2012 and the following year they decided to sell everything and go to Guyana, South America for a 8 month long mission trip to build a new dental building. Upon returning, they decided to settle down in Beaverton, OR and had their second child, Penelope (Penny), in 2014. In 2019 a job change for Ben meant crossing the river and moving up to Vancouver, WA and into the Meadow Glade community where they have happily settled for the long haul! Heidi enjoys crafting, cooking, taking care of their bunny, and trying new restaurants. The past 12 years as a stay at home mom have been spent carefully raising her kids and helping them to gain many experiences while following God’s direction. She is now looking forward to the new journeys ahead! (See attached pics of Heidi and her family.)

* Prayers are appreciated for our church's Strategic Planning Committee. They began their work weeks ago (they have met four Sundays) and are prayerfully preparing a current vision statement for our church. Their next meeting is Sunday, May 19 at 9 am in the church board meeting room.

* Graduate List 2024 - Our Meadow Glade Church family graduates will be posted on the bulletin board in May. WHAT'S HAPPENING WITH OUR NEIGHBORS

* Columbia Adventist Academy’s 2024 Constituency Session is scheduled for this Thursday, April 25, 2024 at 7:00pm. The meeting will take place in the CAA Chapel located at 11100 NE 189th St., Battle Ground, WA 98604. If you have questions or need additional information, please email [email protected].

* 4-19-24 Oregon Conference message regarding camp meeting: "As the Oregon Conference Administration and Executive Committee work diligently under God’s leadership to restore our Conference to sound financial footing, a number of difficult decisions continue to be considered. A guiding principle is that no significantly costly expenses – no matter how long standing and beloved – can be completely off limits as the leadership team conducts cost-benefit analyses. In that vein, on April 18, the Executive Committee, with prayerful consideration, made the extremely difficult decision to suspend Spanish and English camp meetings for 2024, with plans to fully reinstate this Spirit-filled event for 2025. As you likely know, camp meeting is one of the most expensive line items in the Oregon Conference budget every year and to produce it this year would have required the Conference to borrow approximately $380,000. As important as camp meeting is to all of us, we simply couldn’t justify taking on that much debt as we work to bring our budget back into balance. Our hearts ache with yours at missing out on the spiritual and social fellowship of camp meeting this year, but we strongly believe that God is calling us to take this step in 2024. With all of that said, Elder Linrud reached out to pastors yesterday to initiate possible discussion of implementing conversions around geographic area gatherings (regional convocations) around the Conference this year. More prayer and conversation will need to take place in this regard. Please stay tuned for possible additional news on this front. Thank you for your ongoing prayers for the continued progress in our push to achieve a balanced budget in the coming months. If you have any questions about why the difficult decision was made to not hold camp meeting this year, please reach out to [email protected]."

* 4-22-24 letter from CAA Principal Gene Heinrich: "Dear CAA Family, In 2004 a group of visionary students inspired the Columbia Adventist Academy community to invest in the mission of their school through the purchase of a 'new to us' coach bus. Over the last twenty years 'The Coach' has transported CAA’s missionaries up and down the west coast from Canada to Mexico. On music tours, athletic events, biology trips, SA events, mission trips, U-Days, Fall Classic, Friendship Tournament, and on many, many other outings 'The Coach' has taken the message givers from place to place safely and it has promoted CAA and the Savior we serve, mile after mile as it traveled from place to place. After 20 years of service, you might be asking, is 'The Coach' is ready to retire? And the answer to that question is, 'no.' Not retire, but perhaps its time for 'The Coach' to take those years of experience and transition into more of a consulting role. Every wise woman or man knows when the time has come to hand the reins to the next generation, slow down a little, and enjoy the fruits of their labor. It is best to make this kind of transition when things are working as they should, not when they have begun to fall apart. The golden years should be enjoyable, and for that to happen, you cannot keep driving until the wheels fall off. You must slow down while all the cylinders are still firing. OK, we should end the idioms and cut to the chase (well, maybe a few more idioms). We have been searching for a few years for the right vehicle to take over when 'The Coach' was ready to slow down, and recently we found a deal that seemed so good we could not let it slip through our hands. Today a new coach joined the team at CAA. While we would have loved to have found an even younger coach to join the team, after examining this coach’s resume the school board agreed that having a coach with some experience was to our advantage on multiple fronts. It will remain to be seen if this coach can have as long of a tenure as the one purchased in 2004 but considering that the price we paid in 2024 was half of what we invested in 2004, everyone agreed this was the coach to advance the legacy. Now our challenge. The opportunity to purchase the new coach did not afford us the time that the Class of 2004 had to fundraise. So, we stepped out in faith and used funds from our reserves (rainy-day fund) to make this purchase. To ensure the ongoing financial strength of Columbia Adventist Academy we need to replenish our reserves. If you have been blessed by the ministry of 'The Coach,' or you are looking forward to the blessings that will come with the new coach, or if you just love Jesus and want to provide His CAA missionaries the funds to keep advancing His mission, please prayerfully consider donating to the Coach Bus Fund. You can mail a check to the school office at 11100 NE 189th St., Battle Ground, WA 98604 or click here to donate online. Thanks again to the Class of 2004 for your inspiration and to Jesus and all His faithful followers who make ministry happen through CAA."

* This year's Propel Conference for Evangelism is right here in Vancouver, WA April 28 to May 1. * “Giving Your Best”: We are excited to announce that Meadow Glade Adventist Elementary School will be hosting a spring giving event starting April 22!! We are working with a few of our local community assistant programs in organizing a clothes and can drive to help with giving to others that are in need. The plan is that each family has the opportunity to bring in their “best”, and “hardly used” clothes to give to those in need. No socks, underclothes, or nighttime wear should be given. We will also be limiting each family to only one 25-30 pound plastic bag of clothes, so that we can be really conscious of giving our absolute best! For the “Can Drive” we will accept as many cans as your family would like to donate. The local food banks are always in need of canned foods to give out to families not able to afford enough food for their families. We will be accepting clothes and cans April 22-May 3, and these can be dropped off in front of the gym doors during school hours M-F, 8:15-3:15. These small sacrifices that we make as families, and a school, will truly change people’s lives. Thank you so much for your participation in being Jesus’s hands to our community! If you are finding your family in need, please make sure to check out our local Adventist Community Services (located right next to MGAES) and God’s Closet (located in Vancouver, WA). - Josh Maclachlan.
